It was officially used to help identify a car's country of origin when traveling from country to country in western Europe. The original letters like GB for Great Britain, F for France, D for Germany (aka Deutschland, thus D) and so on, have been expanded to include all of the countries of eastern Europe and some other countries around the world. There have been some changes to the abbreviations for some of the EU countries. France and Spain (among others) for instance have been changed from one letter to two letters. There has been some discussion among our customers as to which is "correct". We have decided to offer F (France) and E (Spain) for those who prefer the classic, and FR and ES for those who prefer the contemporary. In the U.S. there is no official requirement for these types of stickers. So instead, in true American style, we have adapted them for our own personal tongue-in-cheek statements.
